Twitter Blue has been a mess since Musk took over as CEO. For the unaware, the company rolled out Twitter Blue which offered the Verified Tick aka Blue Tick, for $8 per month. To nobody’s surprise, it was abundantly misused as fake accounts changed their profile pic, name and user ID to imitate brands or high-profile celebrities. We witnessed slew of hilarious tweets from such accounts that a brand wouldn’t ever think about posting. As a result, Twitter Blue was rolled back and re-launched recently for iOS at $11 per month. And it is now rolling out for Android. But the pricing isn’t something you’d like.
Twitter Blue for Android costs the same as iOS – $11 per month. To put things in perspective, it is more than the base tiers of many streaming platforms. With the streaming services, you get access to a vast variety of theoretically unlimited content but with Twitter Blue, you are right now getting a blue tick and the ability to edit tweets. The latter might be worth paying for, but not $11. You can also subscribe to Twitter Blue for $8 per month on the web, which is much cheaper but is it worth subscribing to? You decide.
According to Twitter, a Blue subscriber gets prioritized ranking in conversations and future roll outs will include features like bookmark folders, custom app icons, themes, top articles and a reader view to turn “long threads into a more beautiful reading experience.” The subscription might be worth $8 or even $11 per month once all of these features are available.
You can now also subscribe to Twitter Blue on an annual subscription basis for $84 on the web, which translates to $7 per month. It might be the best option to go for if you are sure that you’ll need it for a year. Twitter Blue subscription is currently available on web, iOS, and Android in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the UK. The company plans to expand its subscription service soon. However, you must note that the company mentions on its website that Twitter reserves “the right without notice to remove your blue checkmark at any time in its sole discretion without offering you a refund, including if you violate our Terms of Service or if your account is suspended.”
If you subscribed to Twitter Blue earlier for $2.99 or $4.99 or $7.99 per month, you’ll be notified about the price change on iOS. You can either continue at $11 on iOS/Android and $8 on web or lose your subscription.
