The new Homage speakers from Sonus faber are a beautifully crafted in Italy and packed with … [+] innovation.

Sonus faber

Luxury Italian speaker brand, Sonus faber, has unveiled four new models in the brand’s next-generation Homage collection of loudspeakers. The company’s iconic Homage collection is packed with innovations and this latest range comes three decades after the Homage speakers first launched.

The updated Homage collection is made in Italy and pays tribute to the musical instruments that inspired the collection’s creation back in 1993. The new speakers honor the genius of the creators of fine musical instruments, such as the lute, which has its roots in the ancient city of Cremona.

Four new models include the Guarneri G5, a 2-way stand-mount speaker. The other models are the Serafino G5 and Amati G5, each with a 3.5-way floor-standing design. Finally, there’s the 3-way Vox G3 center channel unit. All four Homage models will be available in red, wenge and graphite deluxe finishes.

TORTORA 2021

Sonus faber has used the latest computer simulation and testing equipment to improve the design of the speaker cabinets. The improvement is attributed to Sonus faber’s 2021 acquisition of the De Santi woodworking facility, its previous cabinet supplier for the past 35 years.

The company claims it’s made dramatic improvements to the bracing and porting system of the cabinets, introducing greater efficiency and output while maintaining control of resonances. The midrange and tweeter chambers have also undergone a radical design change.

The Homage range retains the classic Sonus faber lute shape, a design first introduced with the Homage Tradition collection. The cabinets now have modified metalwork, including smooth, rounded edges and a graphite grey anodized finish.

Tuning of the Guarneri’s 150mm driver has led to improvements in control and has tamed resonance … [+] right down to 15Hz.

TORTORA 2021

Intono is a proprietary Sonus faber technology that addresses the drawbacks of using ported cabinets and sealed enclosures by playing to their strengths. Intono uses a midrange driver ducted into a further sealed enclosure tuned just above peak pressure frequency.

When the port unloads or dips below its tuning frequency, the air pressure is equalized into the alternate chamber, significantly reducing impedance peaks. The Intono system offers the benefits of ported and sealed-enclosure designs but in a more efficient system and is available in the Amati G5 and Serafino G2 models.

The Amati and Serafino speakers are fitted with a new, more efficient 150mm natural fiber midrange driver with a neodymium magnet. There’s also a shorter and wider voice coil for greater control, faster response and more overall force. The suspension of the driver has been improved with optimization for greater speed and control.

TORTORA 2021

The Serafino’s bass driver has been updated with a new coil and spider material optimized for greater air movement and bass extension. The complete system has also been mass-loaded to counterbalance any resonant vibration.

The Amati model features a new 220mm bass driver with a 23.6 % increase in force. Two ultralight CCAW voice coils are implemented in a custom-formed neodymium Slug, with two air gaps for maximum speed, plus an integrated heat sink for improved power handling.

Meanwhile, the tuning of the Guarneri’s 150mm driver has produced improvements in control and the resonance has been tamed down to 15Hz. A purpose-built neodymium motor system and new tuning frequency enable a deeper extension without distortion.

The Homage range is fitted with Sonus faber’s new hybrid crossover system. The company has used the finest components alongside the latest simulation software and extensive listening trials to develop Sonus faber’s proprietary Paracross topology and Interactive Fusion Filtering.

The crossover system is made with hand-selected Jantzen inductors, custom specification Clarity Caps, Mundorf capacitors and resistors that are hand-soldered on custom circuit boards for maximum clarity and high power handling. The result is a low noise floor and a long service life.

The new Homage drive units are all time-aligned and phase corrected. This phase coherent driver array produces a more significant impact and an enhanced three-dimensional effect for a more immersive soundstage.

The cabinets of the Homage range retain the classic lute shape, but with modified metalwork … [+] including smooth, rounded edges, with a graphite grey anodised finish.

Sonus faber

The Homage models feature existing Sonus faber technologies such as the company’s D.A.D reference tweeter, cellulose pulp midrange cones and sandwich cone mid-bass drivers. In addition, aluminum ‘dampshelves’ at the top of the cabinet increase rigidity and reduce resonance, while the proprietary UltraFlex anti-resonance porting system maximizes airflow.

There’s no doubt that Sonus faber makes some of the most beautiful and superb-sounding speakers on the market. The new Homage range is bound to create much interest with Sonus faber’s fanatically loyal customer base.
