New Apple Leak Reveals Stunning MacBook Air Decision

Apple’s faithful have been asking for one great new feature on the MacBook Air for many years; now it looks likely to arrive later this year.

Apple Holds Annual Worldwide Developers Conference

With the current MacBook Pro laptops focusing on workstation levels of performance and Apple Silicon offering an impressive package of performance in the current MacBook Air range, there’s a curious middle ground that needs to be filled. What do you do if you want a larger screen on your macOS laptop but don’t want to pay the eye-watering sums needed for the M2 Pro or M2 Max MacBook Pro?

Previously you would have been out of luck – the Air was the lightweight portable, and the Pro had the extra size and performance. Thankfully Apple is accepting that it needs more than two options for laptops. The MacBook Air is set to offer a bigger option to sit between the current top-specced MacBook Air and lowest-specced MacBook Pro.

Apple’s MacBook Air is finally getting a model with a 15-inch display.

The details come via Ross Young and Display Supply Chain Consultants. As the name suggests, Young watches the exact same space in the market that Apple would need to turn to if a larger MacBook Air was being prepared. Young is reporting that production has begun on the display panels for the MacBook Air

This would suggest a launch in early April. I wouldn’t expect to see a full-blown Apple event around this. Given the launch of the aforementioned M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pros was conducted through a press release and YouTube introductions, a similar approach feels likely. There is always the option to hold back the MacBook Air until June’s Worldwide Developer Conference, much like the launch of the current 13-inch MacBook Air that debuted Apple’s M2 chipset.

This won’t be the first time the MacBook Air has been offered in two different physical sizes – Apple offered an 11-inch MacBook Air between 2010 and 2017 – but it will be the first time it has offered a consumer-focused MacBook Air with a larger screen. Customers needing the extra real estate without the increased spending needed for a performance-focused MacBook Pro have been waiting a long time for Apple to meet a demand that has, until now, been the purview of every other laptop manufacturer in the world.
