Data from Western journalists that about 70,000 Ukrainian servicemen died during the full-scale war are false.

This was stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov in an interview with Welt. “As for our losses, this account does not correspond to reality at all. Our army was not at all so large that we could talk about the loss of 70 thousand soldiers,” he said.

Danilov noted that those who voice such figures do not have accurate information about the situation in Ukraine. “We monitor every day all the processes taking place on our territory, starting from February 24, 2022. It is not clear to me why respected journalists are spreading such misinformation about our losses,” added the secretary of the NSDC.

Losses of Ukraine and Russia in the war: NYT assessment

In mid-August, an American newspaper, citing US officials, said that the total number of soldiers killed or wounded in this war amounted to almost 500,000 people.

According to their data, Russia lost about 120 thousand invaders killed and 170-180 thousand wounded. In Ukraine – about 70 thousand defenders killed and 100-120 thousand wounded.
